Employment situation in Zanzibar

The ILO report on Global Youth Employment Trends (2013) estimates global youth unemployment at 73.4 million, an increase of 3.5 million since 2007 and 0.8 million above the level in 2011 (ILO 2013). The report stated further that youth unemployment rate decreased from 12.7 per cent in 2009 to 12.3 per cent in 2011, but increased again to 12.6 per cent in 2013. By 2018, global youth unemployment rate is projected to rise to 12.8 per cent. According to the report, 6.4 million young people have given up hope of finding a job and have dropped out of the labour market.
